- Pretty much still experimenting, how to, what to, ..., with this new tiny low power saving server.
- Site outlook is by no means fixed nor considered finished yet.
- Site will be still updated further at some time. It's quite easy to add pages with statistics of recent weather etc. No ETA yet when it will be visible on site.
- I'm still in process of improving bit more background service(s) software and will continue it as time permits off duty and no other interest prevent.
- Because of the above, consider not to waste your time yet and create scrapers or the like, you will have to redo it later, if you rather like it to work after site updates a bit and then stabilises..
- The weather station is still the same Davis Weather Monitor II which has been in use since late 1997. It was aquired then from Ilkka Lilja Oy and has been working flawlesly since then and now over 14 years later.
- Two first physical servers were donated by Miro. Third, installed by me 2006, was a recycled DELL PE-2550 donated by ComputingCenter. Current server is a modified ARM Linux system (EMC iConnect) donated by me. It's worth noticing that the power consumption was cut to 1/100's last server change. New server consumes only 2W power, but provides enough processing power to run this kind of small site.
- Sofware however is now completely different what Miro Pihkanen wrote while he was at university.
- New software is based on FC's Free Software "Davis WWW Weather Station" stuff. However it's already been partially rewritten and modified already by me. Web page templates processing engine is brand new piece written from scratch also by me. IMHO old (maxmin.py) was too confusing and hard to maintain, did not use page templates etc. New software supports UTF-8, it's realatively easy to add templates for other languages etc. I'll publish the changes and web page generating code once it matures a bit more.
